Hair extensions are a quick and economical way to enhance your style with highlights or length addition. I have over 20 years experience as a professional hair stylist and deal with dozens of clients each week. I get most excited about the transformation blonde hair extensions (or other shades) provide. My goal is to help people with practical solutions for them to look their best.

With the new technology available, you can now transform yourself in minutes without damaging your hair! Understanding the different methods that are used is important, as you will want to utilize the technique that works best for you. I will go into the most popular methods later on in this page. Please read on, you may turn into a hair extension addict like so many other women around the world have!

Some women have very thin hair and want more volume, others have short hair and are looking for a dramatic enhancement to their style. Many have seen the damaging effects of over-coloring their hair can have and are looking for a safe alternative. Extensions can provide outstanding highlighting results without damaging your hair. Below I have summarized the advantages of and different methods of extension applications, as well as my personal recommendations.

Blonde Hair Extensions (and other shades) provide:

Flexibility - Change hair color highlights yourself very quicklySave money with less trips to salon (do it your self)Transform your lookStyle and color the hair extensions to enhance your natural hairThere are many different methods and types of hair extensions available. Below I have outlined four of the most popular methods and pro/cons of each one. As a general rule, stay away from any kind of synthetic hair extensions. These will look the least natural, wear out quickly, and cannot be colored to your liking. They are less expensive but, in my opinion, are not worth the price.

Method 1 Clip-Ons -

Professional clip-on extensions have dramatically improved in the last few years by using secure, long lasting weave/snap-on clips and human hair. You can now get professional human hair clip-ons that can be applied quickly, are very economical, and look fantastic! Human hair clip-ons can be bought in different shades and can be colored and styled to match your existing hair. I have numerous clients every week using these type of extensions with incredible results that look natural. They can be applied yourself or by your stylist. With the new professional type clips, you DO NOT need to take them out every night. They stay firmly attached to your hair until you are ready to change your style.

Method 2 Micro-ring (Loop)

Micro-rings are extensions that are woven into your hair by looping existing hair into the extension rings. This takes more time than the clip-ons (about 2-4 hours for a full set) and can be difficult to apply yourself. You feel some discomfort for the first day due to the tight weaving, but get used to it after that. You can get good, natural results from this type of extension, but not significantly better than clip-ons.

Method 3 Fusion (Glue-in)

This method uses individual strands of hair that are attached by glue adhesive. Typically you will need a salon technician to attach them, with the cost into thousands of dollars. Also, you need to have them renewed every few months. You can get very natural looking results from this method. Over time, there is a risk of damaging your hair from the adhesive product and renewal process. If you are interested in this method, be sure to do thorough research on the technician that is applying them and look for references from existing clients.

Method 4 Sewn-in Wefts

These are wefts of extensions that are sewn into your natural hair by a salon technician. This can be very expensive, time consuming and I have heard that they are also painful and uncomfortable to wear. Do you research on these before you try them.

Recommendations

Of these methods, I recommend most of my clients to use Method 1 - Human hair clip-on extensions. This is the most natural, flexible option for the money with no risk of hair damage. In the long run, it will reduce the visits to the salon and will allow a change in hair style when the mood strikes you.

Buying Extensions

As I mentioned earlier in this page, it is important that you buy your hair extensions from a reputable company that sells quality products. You want your extensions to look great and last a long time. I have seen bad products that look great when first worn, but fade or get kinky curls after one wash. This will just cause frustration and more expense out of your pocket. By investing in a good quality product, you can have blonde hair extensions that you can use over and over again with no problems.
